Ball Leagues
All
of the different teams that play ball in Grande Prairie belong to individual leagues.
These leagues are independently operated groups and are separate entities from SPBA.
SPBA
is an umbrella organization that is responsible for the maintenance and
management of the baseball diamonds in Grande Prairie. SPBA charges a rental
fee to each league when one of their teams plays on a diamond but is not
responsible for league play.
Each
league sets their own individual rules, registration fees,
performance bonds as well as their own executive.
Here
is some basic information about the different leagues in Grande Prairie.
For
more detailed information or if you have questions, please contact your league
representative directly.

Semi
finals and year end tournament, if your team qualifies
Labatt’s mixed slo-pitch is played with a 7 men and 3
women format.
Standard
mixed
slo-pitch
rules apply, except the following:
1. Home
Run Rule is 3 plus 1
There
is a home run* rule within the Labatt Mixed Slo-Pitch league. Each team is
allowed to hit 3 home runs. Once both teams have 3 home runs, a team is
not able to have more than 1 additional home run above the other team.
For example, if your team has 3 home runs and the opposing team only
has 1; your team is not able to hit any further home runs until the opposing
team reaches their 3. Or, if your team has 3 home runs and the opposing team
has 3 home runs; your team is only allowed to hit 1 home run until the other
team hits one.
During the bottom of the last inning (7th), the home team is not able
to hit more home runs than the opposing team already has.
For example, the visiting team has 4 home runs and the home team has 4
home runs; the home team cannot hit a home run in the final inning. Or, the
visiting team has 4 home runs and the home team has 3; the home team can hit 1
home run in the final inning.
*A home run is a batted ball that clears the diamond fence on its own.
2. Extra
Player: (EP)
A
team is allowed to have one (1) male and one (1) female extra player per game
in the batting order. i.e. total of 12 players in the batting order.
3. Plate
and Safety Bag on 1st Base:
There
is a commitment line between Home plate and 3rd base. If a base runner crosses
the commitment line, they must continue to Home plate. For player safety
reasons, if a base runner touches Home plate it is considered an out.
There is a safety bag for 1st base. Half is white and the other orange.
For
player safety reasons, the 1st baseman is to use the white portion of the bag
only. The base runner is to use the orange portion of the bag.
4. Outfielder
line for Female Batters:
To
encourage fair play for all, a line 150 feet from the home plate is marked in
the ball field. All Outfielders shall remain behind this line until contact is
made with the ball for female batters.
If
the line is not visible, please use your best judgment.
5. Bunting:
No
bunting is allowed for male or female batters.

History of GP Ladies
Fastball
G P Ladies Fastball league
started back in 1967, when the Inland Ladies League had only 2 ladies
teams.
Two young girls’ teams were
created to help the league keep going. From those 4 teams they eventually
worked their way up to around 11 teams.
Teams were from as far as
Hythe, Beaverlodge, Horselake, Wembley, and several teams from Grande Prairie.
G P Ladies Fastball was the
main force behind the building of South Bear Creek diamonds around 1985.
They were one of the first
members of the Friendship Centre Bingo Association where they worked at least
12 bingos a year.
They have also been involved
in building and painting the dugouts, bleachers, and media boxes at diamond 1
& 2.
And contributed to various
other projects like the siding of the dugouts on the West side of SBC as well
as volunteering their time for several National Championships and Provincials.
